 | Important! Read This Before Attempting A JamCam Installation |
THIS NEWS ITEM CONTAINS CRUCIAL INFORMATION REGARDING DOWNLOADS AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURES FOR THE JAMCAM. Reading the information contained within this notification will ensure your JamCam will install properly on your operating system with a minimum of time, effort and frustration.
Before attempting to install the JamCam downloads from this site on any operating system go to FORUMS and click on WHAT DOWNLOADS ARE REQUIRED FOR MY CAMERA/SYSTEM CONFIGURATION. The downloads required and step-by-step simplified installation instructions for each operating system are listed in the forum. These instructions MUST be followed exactly in order for the JamCam installation to take effect. Installing a bunch of downloads and hoping a proper installation will spontaneously occur WILL NOT WORK!!!
If the installation instructions are not followed exactly one, or several, installation error messages will occur. Explainations and solutions to most of these installation errors can be found by accessing the MOST COMMON JAMCAM QUERIES forum, going to Page 2 and clicking on COMMON INSTALLATION ERROR MESSAGES.
A Few Installation Tips DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THE JAMCAM PROGRAM AND DRIVERS FROM THE ORIGINAL DISK THAT CAME WITH THE CAMERA. Install the JamCam on your system using only the downloads available from this site. The original JamCam disk is 'buggy' and, in all likelyhood, is the root cause of any JamCam problems you are experiencing.
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY ATTEMPTED TO INSTALL THE JAMCAM FROM THE ORIGINAL DISK THAT CAME WITH THE CAMERA YOU MUST DELETE THAT PROGRAMMING FROM YOUR SYSTEM OR THE DOWNLOADS FROM THIS SITE WILL BE OVERWRITTEN BY HIDDEN PROGRAMS AND THE NEW INSTALLATION WILL FAIL. Instruction on how to properly remove the original disk programs are given in the WHAT DOWNLOADS ARE REQUIRED FOR MY CAMERA/SYSTEM forum.
If you are running WinXP, only the downloads available from this site will allow the JamCam to run on the XP operating system. The program and drivers that came with the original disk are not compatible with the XP operating system. The downloads on this site will allow all models of the JamCam to run on all Windows operating systems. Mac compatability installers are also available for download.
A SPECIAL NOTE TO THOSE JAMCAM USERS WHO BLAME ME PERSONALLY FOR THE PROBLEMS THEY ARE EXPERIENCING WITH THEIR JAMCAMS
You are on this site for a reason - you are having a JamCam problem and require assistance. Accept this help graciously. Do not try to out-think the installation instructions by second-guessing them. Follow them as written. Do not complain that the downloads do not work. If the installation is done according to the posted instructions the downloads will work properly. Do not whine about having to install the downloads manually because YOU just know there must be a better way of doing the installation. Since you're such a computer whiz, what are you doing on this site and why couldn't you get your JamCam working on your own?
Last, if after trying everthing you still can't get the JamCam to install, contact me or one of the other successful users of this site (see the GUEST COMMENTS forum) for help BUT ASK NICELY!! Telling me to '...stick your lousy JamCam where the sun don't shine...' because you haven't been able to get your JamCam working accomplishes nothing and won't garner sympathy or help from anyone, especially me. I didn't design the JamCam, I didn't manufacture the JamCam, I didn't write the original JamCam software, I don't sell the JamCam and I sure as hell didn't twist your arm and force you into buying a JamCam. Please understand that thejamcam.com is a private website not affiliated professionally in any way with the JamCam organization and has nothing to do with the manufacturing, sales or service of the JamCam. Also understand that I did not go to all the trouble and time of setting up this website because I wanted to jerk you around - I'm honestly trying to help JamCam users who are experiencing problems.
This website came about after I experienced trouble with my own JamCam, discovered some solutions to my JamCam problems and offered, in a weak moment, to help out a few other JamCam users. I didn't know what I was letting myself in for - 25 to 60 requests a day, each and every day, for help with JamCams. Eventually, in order to save time from repetition, thejamcam.com website was established. I take great pride in the help thejamcam.com provides to JamCam users and, contrary to some of the accusations made by frustrated users of the site, the downloads from thejamcam.com will not put a porn site on your system or cause your system to crash. Both my Webmaster (who donated this site in return for the JamCam help he received) and my Internet Provider would shut me down in a minute if this were the case.
Almost all of the problems users experience with this site can be traced back to one fundamental element - THE FAILURE OF THE USER TO PROPERLY FOLLOW THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. It never ceases to amaze me that many people, language challenged when it comes to spelling or following simple instructions, believe they don't need these skills to be computer literate. When caught out, they try to shift the blame for their shortcomings onto "...the POS JamCam.." or "...your corrupted files..." etc. The majority of the information on this site is written in very basic high school English and should be easily understood by 99% of users although, alas, this seems not to be the case. The only way to dumb down the instructions any further is to write them as pictographs! IF YOU CAN"T READ, WRITE, SPEAK OR UNDERSTAND the English language properly, how or why do you expect the JamCam installation to work?
